D.J. Smoooth > Aztec from Long Beach City College, CA

|
At Long Beach City College (Long Beach, California) sometime in 1995, I had to create a final show and tell project for both Spanish class, Video class, and Audio class. Three classes, three separate projects, or was it... Oh I forgot, four. Music Production class as well. DAMN!!!
This podcast feed includes the entire soundtrack. In order to accomplish all of this, I decided to present my projects using one project. For Spanish class, I had to present my presentation in Spanish. For Audio class, I had to create an 8-track mix in digital sound. For Video class, I had to create a 10 minute or longer presentation with editing, sound, and narration. So there you go, I decided to make a video with music created by me, video editing, very powerful sound mix, and narrated in Spanish. Because of this project, my interest in the Aztec Indian history has grown a lot, which in turn lead me to studying both the Mayan and Aztec philosophy.
In Spanish, which I totally SUCKED at, I was getting F's on every single test. So I had to come up with a banging idea because the final project was 60% of my grade. I spoke to my prefessora and explained how I wanted to showcase this work. My presentation was the first one, because my name is Antonio. I asked her if I can start the class for her with my presentation. The music, Aztecs Rain (below), would start playing at 6:45pm. The song is 15 minutes long. At 7:00pm, the video will start automatically. The video is 22 minutes long.
To help present the awesome mix I created, in which I used a lot of BASS, and because it was 4-channels of audio, I rented a pair of DJ speakers from a local rental facility, a large projection screen television, and brought my two channel speaker system to place in the rear of the class. My video tape was recorded in the format of Betacam SP which has four channels of audio, so I can archieve the surround sound like effects. I had to mix the audio twice because the school was only equipped with two channel mixing boards. The original video was edited on U-Matic 3/4" tape. Since I mixed the front channels on one tape and remixed it with surround effects on the rear channels, I had to sync the audio on the Betacam SP as well as sync the video from 3/4" tape. That was a little difficult actually.
Because I am a big fan of surround sound and lots of bass, I created a sound track that blew the classroom, like a THX movie theatre. Even though Betacam SP is analog sound, the presentation sounded huge and the screen was large as well. Below are examples of the presentation.
Aztecs Rain Also see Mayans Turn.
Entire Soundtrack Right now, all I have in MP3 format is the intro music for this presentation. I will provide the entire video and audio presentation sometime next year once I convert my digital video tapes and audio tapes. Please check back in sometime later next year (2008) when I finally get all of my video and audio tapes converted. Unfortunately, I do not have the 4-channel Betacam tape, I just have the two channel audio mixes.
